A leading factor in recent auto accidents, that have led to

As reported by HealthDay News on 09-272010, recent government research shows that fatalities caused by auto accidents involving texting and cell phone distractions increased by 28 percent over the span of three years, from 2005 to 2008.
It is estimated that a four billion text messages are exchanged every day amongst Americans, many of which originate while driving. HealthDay News quoted lead researcher Fernando Wilson, an assistant professor in the School of Public Health at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth, as saying in the report of his findings: "The increases in distracted driving seem to be largely driven by increased use of cell phones to text... Overall use of cell phones have been pretty steady, but texting volumes have increased dramatically in the last few years."
